Legal Counsel – Digital Payments & Fintech (Part-Time/Freelance)

We are seeking a dynamic Legal Counsel to support our operations in the digital payments and fintech domain. The ideal candidate will provide legal guidance on compliance with relevant regulations such as PSD2, AML, and GDPR, while supporting internal stakeholders and external partners in managing legal risks and obligations. This is an opportunity to work in a flexible, innovation-driven environment, where your legal expertise can make a strategic impact.

Key Responsibilities:

• Interpret and ensure compliance with regulations in the digital payments ecosystem, including PSD2, AML, and GDPR
• Liaise with external legal counsels and internal stakeholders to coordinate legal risk assessments
• Maintain an organized repository of contracts and legal documentation
• Support procurement and finance teams with legal advice related to contractual obligations
• Monitor regulatory developments in the fintech/payments sector and advise management accordingly

Place: Milan (Hybrid/Part-Time)

Requisiti:

• Law degree and (preferred) professional qualification to practice in Italy
• Hands-on experience in a legal role, ideally in fintech, digital payments, or technology sectors
• Strong knowledge of commercial and civil law, with a focus on contracts and dispute resolution
• Familiarity with payment services regulation (e.g., PSD2), data protection (GDPR), and basic compliance principles (nice to have)
• Excellent communication skills in Italian and English
• Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a flexible, part-time arrangement
• Availability to work from our Milan office when needed

• Availability as a freelance professional
• Previous experience working in a startup or scale-up environment
